by Елена Кунакаева last modified 2008-02-16 06:39

The committie on natural resourses and ecology of Carelian Parliament has discussed the question upon the designation of Ladoga skerries as a protected natural area.

All the members of the committie were for this designation but couldn't decide whar status to give to the protected area.

Local people are confused because earlier they were told  that the natural park would be created on the territory of Ladoga skerries and now the question on the designation of national park.

Leading researcher if Institute of Forest Alexey Kravchenko suggested that local officials should explain to the people the difference between these two statuses. The main concern of the people is not about the status of a protected area but mostly about the proper protection this unique territory.
